Default correct C6 kickdown adjustment on 68 Mustang

what's the correct adjustment to the cable from the kickdown on the c6 tranny to the rod running from the accel pedal &/or how to get it that way? If it was a later yr, I know it runs off the carb but not for my car
thanks in advance

I never have had my automatic kickdown working properly. It'd be nice if it did work but since I usually just manually shift it anyhow it hasn't bothered me enough to pursue it.

malacoreen, it's a 1968 Mustang C6 which uses a cable driven from the accel pedal not the carb
fastbackford351, yea thats what I've also been doing over the last 13 yrs but since it's there I thought WTH, see if it works! I did read somewhere that:
There should be an arm extending down from the accelerator pedal linkage just beyond where it goes through the firewall. The downshift cable attaches to this arm. If it's a pedal assy. from a standard shift car, it won't have this arm.
If the arm is there, to adjust the cable, you want the pedal to the floor and the downshift lever pulled all of the way forward. Adjust all of the slack out of the cable to where the threaded piece (Trunion) will line up to the hole in the arm. Once the hole matches up, turn the threaded piece one more complete turn tighter and install.

sooo I'll check it out tonite to see if it actually works

It worked great! after I did it, I was looking thru my 1968 Ford Mustang service manual & it said the exact same procedure for any of the vehicles that have the kickdown attached to the accel pedal
