Default is this a good trade?

i got my 06 gt with 30k milage a couple months ago for 15k. but its an automatic and its killing me!

i found a dealer an hour away with a 2002 mustang gt 5 speed with 60k milage and he said he was willing to do a even trade + 2 free oil changes. He says the manual mustang gt cars have more horsepower and its faster then what i got now, but i like the s197 body style more, but i cant find a manual gt in my price range at all, i live in a very crappy part of minnesota when it comes to car selection, since most people here drive SUVs for the snow times.

You got the 06 for a good deal but I wouldn't trade for a four year older car with more miles and less horsepower just for a manual! Stock for stock your 06 will still be a bit quicker in a straight line. My advice would be to just enjoy your stang because its still a great car and look for a manual 05 or newer to pop up.

lol hell no to that trade. 2002 gt 260hp 302tq

2006 gt 300 hp 320tq

I think the 02 is a tad lighter but its still slower and not near as nice as the 06 gt.

find exactly what you want on ebay, then travel there to get it and trade in your car if necessary

You should get way more than an even trade and two free oil changes for that trade. This dealer would make a nice profit on you with this deal. You found a good deal on you auto so that shows there's other good deals out there. Just gotta be patient. Besides, the 3valves breath better top end. 2valves lose their steam up top.

That's a crock of **** that 02 GT does not produce the amount of horsepower the 06 does. He's hoping you trade that in because hes going to flip that thing for a nice profit.

That dealer is full of crap and trying to pull a fast one on you. Don't even consider it.

For sh*ts and giggles I did a kbb private party check on both the cars you mentioned. I put in premium GTs, with the appropriate miles you mentioned and found that there is an easy $10k difference in price between the two, in excellent condition. You should get 5 years free oil changes and free tires!

OMG...where to begin. The dealer is a tool and misrepresenting big time. A Manual car will put more HP down to the ground than an EQUAL Auto tranny due to less drivetrain loss of the manual drivetrain. That is true but:

2002 had 260 flywheel HP and 302 flywheel TQ w/3.27 rear diff.
2006 had 300 flywheel HP and 320 flywheel HP w/3.31 rear diff.
Those are not equal.

Also ALL auto tranny mustangs (05+) have a shorter first gear than the 05+ manual tranny to make up for the extra drivetrain lose and is why they are as fast as the 05+ manual mustangs.

2006 Automatic GT is just as fast as Manual 2006 GT
Stock 2002 GT manual or (especially) automatic will get dusted by a stock 2006 GT regardless of tranny.

Move on.
