Default I'm planning to buy a used Saleen... BUT...

...I have zero mechanic abilities. Should I forget buying a 5 year old Saleen and just go with a new factory covered Mustang?

I'm thinking that with all the modifications to the car that it might be difficult to find parts or a competent person to work on it.

What do you think?

Depends, what has been done to it? Was it a daily driver? Are you buying it for a daily driver? Are you interested in learning mechanical stuff? Has anyone who has automotive knowledge inspected it?

A lot of my answer is guessing since I haven't found the exact vehicle yet.

I am buying it for a daily driver (minus weather). I am interested in learning, but not too deeply. My workspace (2 car garage) is limited. Someone with auto knowledge WILL inspect it prior to purchase.

Well try to find a mostly stock, well maintained vehicle. The person or garage you have inspect should be able to tell the shape of the vehicle. Stock means it needs to be all supporting mods from Saleen and not mods the customer added. All parts Saleen will be easier to find replacements then some unknown or supposed mod the previous owner did. Other than that, do your research and make sure the price is fair for mileage and wear.

Good luck

A 2013 or 2014 Mustang would certainly be trouble free and give you the most peace of mind if and when you needed to service it or make repairs in case of a boo boo. 420 HP is nothing to sneeze at either. No Supercharger to worry about either.

I'd steer towards the new Mustang with the warranty if you don't have the wrenching abilities yet... these ultra-performance cars can be temperamental.

. . . of course, you can't beat the appearance, performance, and prestige of a properly maintained S197 bodied Saleen S281SC, IMHBAO . . .

My S281E has been pretty reliable and very fun. The headlights did stop working though, which was annoying. Can't remember what the actual problem was though...
