Default 2002 GT Starter Removal

Need some help here, trying to install new headers and can't seem to get the starter out to work. The top bolt is un-reachable, any advice?

when my tranny was comming out, the guy had to take out the starter, it was on a lift which made it a little easier, and he had a long *** extension, he said that taking that out was more of a bitch than getting the tranny out, so find a long long long extension and you should be able to reach it, good luck man

If i remember correctly when I installed my LT's I used a 1/4" rachet and socket to get off the pain in the *** bolt on the starter. I think a long *** extension won't work. I could be wrong but thats what I think. I think anything bigger than a 1/4" will have to big of a head which wont allow you to get straight on he bolt.

I just did mine and it is a pain in the A** but do-able. I used a short 13mm 1/4" drive socket with a 6" extension and ratchet. You need to reach over the starter with your left hand to guide it on to the bolt and that should be it. To install it, I loaded the socket with some grease to hold the bolt and did the same thing to guide it in. Again, its a B***H. Believe me, there are a lot of 4.6 cars running around with just 2 bolts in the starter, good luck.

For the most part, what previous post said is right. I used a extension long enough to have the ratchet on the opposite side of the starter........ the first time took a while to figure it out, but you'll get the hang of it and it shouldn't bother you again.

It is very hard to try and describe but here it goes. You have to come in from in front of the motor mount under the manifold with extensions. It is a pain and took me an hour to get the top bolt off then about another 45 min to get it back on. It seems imposable but it is not. Determination will get you through it.

was this a reply to the OP question about the bolts holding the starter on or my question about the ones holding the wires?
