Hi,

I need to replace the brake lines completely on my 1970 Mach I and the question asked is "what is size of Differential (rear) 8" or 9" How can I tell?

Thanks I will look at mine but I wonder is there something I can measure to be certain? What would be the starting point of measurement I wonder.

Look at the third member, it should be roughly octagonal, where the 9" is closer to a true circle. Also the bottom two bolts in the 6 and 8 oclock positions cannot be removed with a ratchet, only a open ended wrench on a 9 inch.

What does the differential have to do with your brake lines? Are you trying to get lines pre bent to the exact shape of your housing?

I always just buy bulk line from NAPA a bit longer than I need, and cut/flare one end to get the right length.

Yeah getting pre-bent. Did some reading and flaring and bending seemed to cause lots of issues if not done right and I have never tried so in this case I figured I would go with kit

Depending on how much of it you are replacing it's cheaper for the prebent kits when you buy the bender, flaring tool, cutter and a few extra feet of tubing and fittings doesn't pan out. If you're going to do it more than once then buy the tools. I plan on buying them but I've also got a lot of time to do it.
