Default Engine changes after 10-2002?

I'm pricing parts for my son's 2002 GT. Ford ETIS gives a build date of 11.06.2002. The door sticker says 06/02, so ETIS must list build date as dd.mm.yyyy?

Anyway, looking at Rock Auto for a timing set, as this engine has 143K on the odo and I have to open it up for other reasons, so timing will just be good insurance. Rock auto lists a Sealed Power timing set, but it is only applicable for cars built until 10-2002. What changed in the engine after that date? I think I can conclude that his car was built before that, but I'm just curious.

I checked my 2005 F150 at ETIS, and it gave a build date of 14.10.2004, so the dd.mm.yyyy format is correct.

Looks like you answered your own question on Ford ETIS. Yes the format is dd.mm.yy - Mine was build March 20th 2003. ETIS states it has midnight black interior......that part was incorrect.

In order to determine what timing assembly set you need, you need to determine which version of motor you have. 1999-2004 SOHC Mustang engines were either Romeo or Windsor engines. If you were well versed in these motors....you would know

Below is a link detailing the difference between the two engines. You most likely have a Romeo on your hands.

Is everyone on this forum so sarcastically hostile to new members?

No, but new members need to understand this is the internet, to grow some thick skin, and not take everything so personally.

I find it strange that so many have convinced themselves that this isn't a mechanical issue when not one of them has heard it run nor put a stethoscope to the valve covers as I have. Not one of them has any idea what kind of experience I have with engines, yet they are happy to tell me I must be wrong. Maybe I joined the wrong forum and should just move along....

No, you joined the right forum, but your attitude is what's getting you. The only thing the people on here are trying to do is save you some time and effort. By all means, crack open the engine before you test anything if you think you know better, just don't get pissy if we don't agree with you.

Nothing much changed, just either a windsor or romeo engine. You can identify them by the number of valve cover bolts. Windsor has 14 and Romeo has 11. The kit is likely based on either a small revision, or something like a gasket. Not sure whats in the timing set.

Who said anything about cracking the engine open without first performing some tests? Have you read what I posted?

1 Swap coils
2 Swap plugs
3 Hot and cold oil pressure check
4 Compression test

Hell, I'll even swap the injectors around to humor the forum here. No doubt it will make no difference just like the coil and plug swap.

Oh I know, it's just how it comes out over the internet. I know you probably don't mean to, but you come to a forum full of experts and it seems like you think you know more based on the ownership of a completely different engine in the same family.

I highly doubt that the injectors are going to do anything, I wouldn't even bother. You never posted up the results of the compression tests, what were they?

Weather hasn't cooperated until today, and I just got called into work early. Hopefully tomorrow.
