Default 2014 convertible top question

Hey I had a question about the 14 convertible top? does anyone have issues when closing the top? I recently was looking at one and the dealer said it was normal. I actually had to work very hard to close it by moving it around quite a bit, shaking it and using quite a bit of force to get it to fall into place. The convertible I have,2007 has never, even brand new had any issues closing at all. it always fell right into place a firm pull down and just latch the latches. He told me that the weekend before it was used in a parade, it made me wonder if someone had sat on the top and bent some of the parts inside. they even brought another one over and it did exactly the same thing. Not sure if the salesman was being shifty. Anyone else have issues with their 2014 not latching quite right without alot of work?

thanks

I think the top has been damaged. I do not have that issue with my 2010 convertible and I am quite sure the top mechanism has not changed. Even if he has a second one that has the problem, it too has been damaged. Go to a different dealership and try.

Sounds to me like they used more than one car in the parade....tops have been easy to close on all the S197 convertibles. Might consider stopping by a shop that specializes in tops just for an opinion from them.

Default Latching the top

I have a 2014 convertible. Yes if I shut it completely the driver side has issues latching. If i leave it a hair from close, i am able to latch it with no problems.

Last week I was asked to look at a new Stang convertible with this problem.

Dealer sent it to me said the customer didn't like it cause it didn't drop exactly on the pin holes and easily latch.

This didn't seem to matter with owners of older Mustang convertibles. Quite frankly I see it on tops of all versions.

One adjustment helped it get closer to dropping into the pin holes, but it still did not easily latch.

Didn't hear if Ford had an opinion of the matter.

yes exactly! the pins do not go in place. actually due to many problems with the car I made a trade with the dealer for the exact same model but it also has exactly the same issue, the pins will not fall into place. Is this something that can be fixed? Its quite a pain to try to close and I have to say Im very disappointed in the operation of it.

I had a 2007 convertible and traded it for a 2013 convertible. Both close very easily.

I must have been lucky with my 2010 V6 premium, the pins fall almost into the jokes that make easy latching. I sometime leave my to open for weeks at a time since it is a garaged car and does not create an issue either. I have not heard of a problem with my fellow club members that have later models than I. However, we do not have a member with a 2014 either. This issue may be the supplier of the 2014 models. That would be the only thing I could see different between models.

My 2012 convertible has no problem with the top. It closes with no problem at all. I can't believe that the 2014 top is any different than mine. As others have said, the cars you saw probably had damaged tops.
