First run in a mustang
Ran my bone stock 3.7 at maple grove for the first time. Not only was it the first time running a mustang, it was the first time running a rear wheel drive car. (I ran front drive turbo cars about 10 years ago).
SO.. I got one measly run in as they closed the track down right after my first run; extremely disappointing. My time was terrible. I launched at about 4,000 rpm while slipping the clutch and couldn't stop spinning, even through 2nd gear I had to let off the gas and lay back in it. I ran 14.729 @ 97.94 . I feel that I know what I did wrong but wasn't able to get in anymore runs to adjust my technique. Also I am running new 225/50/18 Eagle LS2's which aren't exactly track worthy. I will be returning this friday for another shot at it.

Still not a bad time, all things considered. Your mph shows that the car clearly has potential to record a much faster ET. Let a little air out of the tires and stop sweating the holeshot so much. You don't have to be rev'd up and burning the clutch like that - all that did was waste time. Pay attention to the lights, step off quickly and go to WOT.

Still not a bad time, all things considered. Your mph shows that the car clearly has potential to record a much faster ET. Let a little air out of the tires and stop sweating the holeshot so much. You don't have to be rev'd up and burning the clutch like that - all that did was waste time. Pay attention to the lights, step off quickly and go to WOT.

On street tires - I'd just recommend a casual launch. The idea of having to be rev'd up, locked and loaded for launch is merely a paradigm. You don't have the equipment for that kinda launch. Step off of it as if you were leaving a stop light, then give it hell after you're engaged.

In fact, with the 225s you may actually be better off bogging the car a bit out of the hole, and short shifting 2nd (if you have a stick). The 3.7L engines long suit is top end power, not bottom end torque, so you might try to get moving and THEN pound the pavement with it, rather than trying to win the "short track."
