Default 3.73 gears and posi rearend

I was pricing this today and had one shop tell me they could do the swap and install for X amount of dollars.

I called another shop for a quote and they told me that the posi is a waste of money and just go with the gear only because the 3.8 will never spin the tires.

This is a 2000 Mustang 3.8l Coupe. CAI, UDP and 2.25 Catback true dual with MagnaFlow exhaust.

This will have Drag Radials for the track.

Who is right?

Thanks in advance!

Jack

The point is not to spend the tires, it's to prevent it, man that guy is a moron, get the gears and the t-lok because your stock differential spends the back right tire for speed and then transfers the rest of the hp to the left tire to give you traction, it's kinda hard to explain, but in other words, both tires don't evenly supply the power a t-lok fixes this by allowing both wheels to supply equal power while limiting the amount of spinning out you're going to do therefor giving you better off the line speed and accelleration.

Dude , find a shop that knows what they are doing. Lisen i've had them all V8 mustangs , v6 mustangs and now a 2.3L mustang. Out of all of them the best to drive was the V6 , it has soooooo much potential. You will thanks yourself for getting gears and a posi. you might also wanna consider a chip from www.fordchip.com to recalibrate your speedo when you do the gear swap. Good luck!!!

open diffs like we have supply power to both rear tires until one looses traction, then 100% of the torque is transfered to that one tire, a t-lok will lock both of the tires together and they will spin at the same speed, dont get the ford chip to recalibrate ths speedo get a diablo, also, forget the 3.73s go with 4.10s

i know of the old saying DONT FEAR THE GEAR , but imo the 3.73's are perfect for a 5 speed and 4.10's are perfect for an automatic. But just imo

ive owned a 4.10 GT manual and it was just toooo much gear for a manual. Id usually have to start in 2nd gear if i wanted a smooth start. My v6 auto i had 4.10's in and I was thrilled with them. I have driven a 5 speed v6 with a 3.73 gear and it was smooth as silk not too much acceleration just enough for a good kick in the seat.

i've got 3.73s now and i'd definitely get 4.10s installed if i didn't have to pay another $500 for a gear swap.
