Engine rebuild needed in Phoenix
Hello.. Newbe to the forum and need some information.
I just bought an 88 LX 5.0 and the driver front botom of engine is leaking ALOT of coolant while car is running. It is not coming from the water pump, t-stat housing or hoses, from what I can see. It looks to be coming from the lower front head to block area, driver side only. Figured it may be a cracked head gasket. The engine stumbles at idle at first start up, but once warm it idles fine. The coolant leak continues from that area and I shut her off to not cause any overheating. There is no white smoke or milkyness in the oil either (at least not yet).
Does anyone one have a fair familiar mechanic with 5.0's to do a engine rebuild. Figured if I was going to have the head gasket(s) replaced, the motor would need to be pulled (for passenger side anyways) and go ahead and get it freshened up. I live in North Phoenix. Would it be more cost effective to rebuid the original motor and drop a already rebuilt 5.0 into her? Any references for the rebuild (parts and labor) would be appreciated. I would do it myself, but by the time I rented the puller, tools, etc. I would not be saving all the much dough... Thanks in advance.. John
