Default MTX Custom Fit 12" for 06 Coupe

Hey all!

I've been reading the forums a lot lately and have been trying to find a good sub/amp combo for my new 06 GT coupe that would be within my price range. I really only listen to rock so I don't need a huge amount of thumping but I want a little something extra for around $500-$600. I also don't want it to kill too much of my trunk space. Oh and I have the Shaker 500 system and will be using an Eclipse 5435 DVD/Nav head unit soon.

I was looking around and found the MTX Amplified ThunderForms Custom-fit package. It comes with a custom fit box that fits in the passenger side of the trunk and doesn't take much space, and comes with a 12" sub (up to 225W RMS) with an MTX amp that does 200W RMS, for $550. I was wondering if anyone has one of these or knows anyone with it? Not sure if it's a decent deal for $550 but the largest appeal to me is the fact that it doesn't kill very much trunk space. Here's the link to the PDF with the info: http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products...ST05_specs.pdf Any comments/criticism would be appreciated

- Matt

also check out scosche's box....comes either with their somewhat crappy sub or without...i think in 10 and 12 inch versions....mounts in same spot.....doesnt come with an amp though....if you want to stay all eclipse their lower level subs are pretty shallow as far as mounting goes and their amps are pretty small too....not sure on price though....if you're worried about price and don't care about a warranty check out Online Car Stereo.....pretty good deals but i've heard their warranty isn't as good as buying them from a authorized shop.....

EDIT: sorry i guess onlinecarstereo no longer carries eclipse....i swear they used to....havent been on there in a while since getting my system...oh well check out their other stuff though....

The Scosche looks like a let down for me 'cos it's made of the same material as the MTX, even though it looks like it's carpeted MDF. It also appears to have a bit less volume, which loosely translates to less SQ on the bottom end. Cleaner design, the integrated amp, and undoubtedly better sub quality, all earn it brownie points with me.

Until JL comes out with their Stealthbox which is supposed to have a 13W6, the MTX looks like the best choice to me.

With very little know how, good reading skills of a tutorial, and about 100 bucks you can biuld an enclosure like that. Save ALOT of money, get subwoofer of choice. I did a similar install in a pontiac sunfire, with the box in between the wheel well and back of trunk, used a single Incriminator Audio 187 10".... IT was near as loud as the 73' pontiac I just biult with an mtx 4500 15", 2.75^ft3 ported at32hz.... I was amazed at the output of the 187. Not only the amount of output but clarity and hard hitting punch. Christian rock was a good choice along with godsmack ,theory of a deadman and a few other bands... All sounded great. personally I would biuld yourself or if time/inexperience is a problem buy a prefab and throw one of those subs in.... www.IncriminatorAudio.com

even if it has less volume wouldn't the SQ vary from sub to sub?...either way the MTX is a nicer choice compared to the scosche....but if he didn't want to learn how to build his own box...and didn't want to go with MTX the unloaded box from scosche would be a pretty good choice.....but damn.....can't wait for the new Stealthbox...where did you hear the 13W6 info from?...bout time they've only had 10W3s for the mustang boxes before

You sure it's a W6 they'll put into a Stealth? I don't follow JL much because they'll tell people anything, and because they're JL anyone will believe them. The Thundeforms are nice little packages. With it being a 12" 4500 it's not going to rattle any trim loose but it will make those notes that your factory system is missing start to be heard. You said you listen to rock and those are bascially the only thing thunderforms are good for if your wanting that window rattling rap stuff it's not going to do that, It will however equalize your system out.

The JL info came straight from JL. I inquired about a box a month ago and they had just got a test vehicle in between my emails. I'm guessing the tech took a couple subs off the shelf to see what could fit and saw there was enough room for the 13. Whether it will make it to the final cut, I don't know. I will bug them again soon to check on progress. I am hoping to see it on the market this year, but they may not release it til CES next January.

Definitely, but I was referring specifically to the low end extension. Two identical subs in different sized enclosures will see better response from the larger enclosure. With two different subs in two different enclosures, anything can happen, but most likely the smaller one would still lose out except in higher band transience. Since the factory speakers with the Shaker cover everything down to about 40-50Hz just fine, a trunk sub is really only needed to fill in the very bottom of the spectrum.
