Can the speakers on a MACH 460 be replaced with off-the-shelf ones or not?

Can I replace just the speakers of the MACH 460 system? I thought I read something somewhere that said the interface is non-standard. Has anyone replaced just the speakers with aftermarket ones?

yeah you can replace them, the ohm's are a little unusual, but you can swap em.

No, you cant. The resistance is different. You will overheat the amp and it will stop working.

What's the impedance on the factory speakers? Are aftermarket replacements available?

Ford really should have designed that thing better. Look at how many posts on here are about it[8D]

ok, the ohms or resistance is different but you can safely run aftermarket speakers. i want to say the factory setup is at a 6 ohm load, which means that standard 4 ohm speakers will bring the amp down and it will get hot. there are 8ohm speakers on the market that you can use, but inturn you will lose a little power. you can get around that using a combination of a mid and tweeter and running each side in a series with 4 ohm speakers which will bring you up to a 6ohm load and the amp will be fine. best bet is to lose the factory amp and speakers and go with a good 4 channel and set of components and two ways in back
