Each to there own. As I said, have no probs w/ em, but doesn't imply that I use them. I have in the past. Hell, I'm sure most would flame me for my current setup. Overpriced, mainstream, etc, etc. It all is what you, the consumer, prefer.

I agree with the fact that the key factor to a sound system is install. The key fact that you are missing is that the Type R is a mediocre driver. In a perfectly designed enclosure, the type R will sound its best, and if you like the way it sounds, great. I have experience in a lot of different brands, including some you cannot buy from a local retailer, and will inform you that in my opinion, the type R can be out performed by many subs in the same price range.

I have to put my .02 in......I have no probs with Type R's. I have ran them and was satisfied. I hate the this brand - vs- this brand - vs- that brand argument. Not to say that some products aren't better than others. MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF A SOUND SYSTEM: INSTALL, INSTALL, INSTALL!!!!!!!!! Regardless of equipment choice, the install can make great components sound like s**t, or cheap components sound great. Also, don't expect great things from prefab enclosures, you're not gonna get it. The best money/time spent is on the proper enclosure regardless of sealed or ported. This info, you can take to the bank!!!!!!!!!
