have you done any glass work? I have 3-way componants that I made kick panels for my tweet and 4, and then built a baffle with and enclosure for the 6.5. It was the most difficult project I had tackled at the time and not really for a newb to be honest......

believe me i know this is not a project for someone knew but i have a month off of school and i think that leaves me plenty of time to screw up and try again. makeing the fiber glass pods isnt some much the problem as mounting them to the door. i could mold the back of the pod against the door and then mount it to the door panel but i dont think that will give it enough suport. but what do you think about cutting away what i dont need of the door panel and mounting a piece of wood to the actual door then the fiber glass to the panel for a flush look but suport it by connecting it to the piece of wood

Hey Rich,

Build what ever mounting you need out of MDF- then get a couple of dowels and cut the ring for the speakers. Hot glue the dowels and speaker ring into your MDF box that is secured to the panel - cover it up with the fabric and pour resin to harden. then use duraglass if your are going to paint it or wrap it. Here are some good articles to get you started. Any questions just hit me up..Kenny

I recently did something similar in my truck. I took a center consol out of an explorer, and cut the bottom out of it to allow space for an mdf enclosure for a single 10". When the enclosur was built I was able to mount it to the consol by utilizing some metal brackets that are built into the frame of the consol. Once it was mounted I drilled a bunch of holes in the remaining plastic of the consol and then stretches a piece of fleece over the enclosure and the consol. The glass doesn't bond to the plastic but by drilling holes in the plastic it can bond around it and keep the same shape. The would require you recovering most of the door which means alot of sanding.... I built my kicks the same way on top of the factory piece and they have held up nicely.

A removable pod would stick out alot where there is not much space. Still have not considered kick panels? they offer better imaging when done right and are alot less sanding......

if i do kicks i would put both the 5"mids and tweeters in them and then just make a small fiberglass front where the speaker grill is on the door for the 6.5" woofer. and i know ill need to raise the sound stage so something from cdt?

it does sound easier i think ill go with that idea and just leave my tweeters in the mach460 pods until i can afford an upstage system

small fiberglass front for the 6.5? What are you wanting to gain with the glass?

If you do the kicks properly you will not have to worry about soundstage.

you need to realize tha in order to do that small section up front for looks, you will end up re-doing the entire door panel, both of them.... REALLY REALLY not for the faint hearted nor a first timer.......
