Default 18 vs 16 Gauge Question

So, I got me this interior light harness from Moss Mustang. Its designed to light up the foot area inside the driver and pax side. The thing is....it was suppose to bring some T Taps, but it didnt.

I went to my local hardware store and got 16 gauge T taps...but then i noticed that the wiring on the light harness is 18 gauge (my bad for not checking) the question is....would it work? or am I better off going back and getting the 18 gauge T taps? BTW, I am clueless as to what gauge is the electrical wire I am tapping into....I know is the one inside the stang that lights the interior light when we open the doors....

I only use T-taps when it is a connection that I want to fail later, cause me the trouble of trouble-shooting and tracking down and then replace.

In almost 15 yrs of pro install experience I have NEVER yet found a use for a T-tap in a car and PROUDLY never used one..................

In those years I have how ever trouble-shot other lazy installers F-up abortions that turned out to be a bad connection in a t-tap on more then a few occasions.

crimp connectors are acceptable, solder is always prefered but not always needed but t-taps are for hacks. Don't be a hack....
