im not a big fan of rockford, pioneer, jl, jbl, sony, and im sure there a couple more but those companies just arent so great, but in retrospec its all in your box setup, u could have the worst sub ever made in the right box and it would sound amazing, as well as the best sub in the worst box will sound horrible, also your box also has a play in power handling, you build your box wrong and your subs wont be able to handle the power even if they say they can because they dont have the airspace.

but i like kicker, t3 audio, digital designs, memphis audio, arc audio, all have good products you may want to check out.

i am a competitor and judge if u need any help or advice with it, also own a car audio shop

Kicker FTW. I have run many different models of kicker for years. I wouldnt recommend the pioneer premiers unless they were free...and even then i wouldnt use em. JL dub3s are ok...but not great and def not worth the money. For price, SQ, and durability i would strongly recommend a Kicker CVR in a sealed box if you want SQ.

There are a number of questions that need to be answered.

1. How much do you want to spend?

2. Will you do the install / box construction yourself?

3. What amp do you have? (Is it a real 1000 watts, or a pyramid 1000 watts...)

4. Are you going for sound quality or loudness (spl)?

Mitzu has good advice but his will be a little skewed given he owns a shop that sells kicker and he is sponsered by them. Kicker makes a good sub for spl, but in terms of pure sq they are near the bottom of the barrel. You can make a CVR sound decent in a small sealed box, but many other subs will sound better given a similar installation.

Alpine Type R's are the most overrated, ricer, lumps of hype that have ever existed in car audio. Yes, they are the best that best buy has to offer, but no they are not that great for the money. Unless you work at BBY, you will be better off staying away.

If anyone has had a problem with subs lasting a long time, they obviosuly don't know how to install them correctly. I've had the same setup in my DD for like 6 years. The only thinf that hasn't held up was the carpet adhesive.

JL makes products better then most, but they epect way to much for their product.

A great value in car audio is Elemental designs. Their products are good and come at a great price.

There are a lot of brands of subs that you have never heard of that will destroy anything you will buy from a local retailer. I spent a lot of time in my local shop and got some great equipment, but I could have done much better getting my equipment off the web.

Oh yeah I forgot about Elemental Designs they can put most mainstream brand names out of business if they wanted to...
