The escort 9500ix has the red light cams, speed cams, etc. preload onto the radar detector, also escort comes out with updates that you can download onto the radar detector. If there is a new red light cam you can mark that location on the detector. I dont know how it is everywhere else but in GA I have notice they post a sign if a red light has a cam.

My 9500i has the USB port and they kept telling us.. it's for "future updating" capability. BS... they just came out with a new model to separate us from our wallets.

I wasn't very happy about that... A downloadable DB of redlight cams etc is something they've been talking about for years. One of my main purchasing decisions with the 9500i.

I had the escort 9500i when it first came out but never tried the update so I dont know.... have you tried to call there tech support?

When the 9500ix came out I got that and few months later they emailed me and said a new update was out....And it updated fine for me. Like i said i never tried to update the 9500i, but escort customer service/ tech support is pretty good whenever I had to talk to them before.

I actually have not contacted them yet. The website clearly says the ix is updateable but nothing about the i.

I think they pulled one over on the i buyers. I may have to talk to them about it tomorrow...

You know I swear when I bought the 9500i it said somewhere in the manual about being able to updrade.... but maybe it will not update to give you the red cams, speed cams, etc., maybe it lets you update the firmware? maybe? I don know.

I did contact them. Here's the deal: You can send them your 9500i and they will "upgrade" the device to the 9500ix for $129.00. This also includes 3 years downloads/updates of red light and speed camera DB on the device. Pretty cool... I may just have to do it.
