Default Amp goes into Protect mode

I blew the fuse on my power wire to my amp and switch it out for a 80amp Maxi(it had a 100amp but there was none in town). It worked like normal until about 6 hours later, my subs kicked out so I thought it was the power wire fuse. It turns out to be ok, so I check the fuses on the amp and they were both blown. I put new ones in and now whenever I turn the volume up to around 8 the amp goes into protect mode. Does this mean the amp is toast?

Its a Sony Xplod XM-D6000GTX. Wiring kit is a 1200w Scosche.

I turned the amp controls down to about half and it still goes into protect mode.

Thanks in advance.

Few things to try for this issue..

1) Check the ohms of the subwoofers make sure there still ok, if not itll give the amp a new phm and since its going into protect its droping below specs of the amp.

2) If the above checks out ok un plug the spkr wires from the amp turn it on and turn it up see if still goes into protect if that happens you have a bad amp.

try those few things and see what happens one of those two will most likely be your issue.

How do I check the ohms of the subs?

I turned the gains down and slowly turned them up and I can turn everything up all the way except for the Level dial. It gets to about 6 and then goes into protect. My ground hasnt changed for 2 years so I dont think it can be a bad ground, I tried switching to a new ground but it didnt help.

Its not a ground issue..

You need a ohm meter to test this...

Best bet is to just run it by a bestbuy or local shop and ask them to test the ohms on the subs to make sure a subwoofer isnt going bad ( blown voice coil )

one of few things,

bad subwoofer, amp going out, bad rca cable, low voltage, -- have those items checked and youll be good to go.

* Rated Power Output: 300W x 1 @ 4 Ohms, 600W x 1 @ 2 Ohms
thats the specs on your amp for ohms. If your below 2ohm's even just a little your amp will go into protect.

this is a 2 channel amplifier, i assume you have it bridged?

No I have 2 10" MTX Thunder 4500's. I found the problem, one of the subs was seized. Im not going to bridge it with one sub working because Im just going to get new ones.

it would play just fine with one sub as long as the box was built with seperate encosures for each woofer.

Yes it does play just fine. Each sub has a separate box. A little less bass but nothing bad.
