Default replacing head unit in an 02 GT

I have a 2002 GT with the Mach 460 and the 6 disc in dash changer. The head unit has decided that it doesn't want to give my CDs back to me, so I'm going to replace the unit. What all will I need to make an aftermarket unit work with the Mach 460 system? Also, any recommendations for a good, low priced, head unit would be great

the indash changers are just a time bomb waiting to take your favorite disks.

I show how to install a deck into a mach system on page 2 of my cardomain page. 02-03 was a transition year so you will need to pull the deck out to see what harness you will need but any deck can fit both single and double din.

One car stereo dealer told me that the only way to get the 460 to sound right with an aftermarket head unit was to go with a Pioneer unit. Surely this can't be true. I think he was just trying to push his brand on me.
I found this unit that I really like, but he told me that it wouldn't work with the 460

Someone help me please! Will this unit work in my car?

Thanks for the help

it'll fit, but you might have some problems with the motorized face flipping down and hitting the gear shifter and the second thing is IMO I don't trust Jensen they have a way of snatching cds as well

So what would you recommend for a nice head unit that won't break the bank?

Thanks for the help

It depends on what you want out of a unit. What do you want it to do?

Hey guys, going from personal experience, I replaced my Mach 460 head unit with a Kenwood KDC-HD942U and kept the stock amplifiers and speakers. It took a good hour to tinker around with the sound settings on the head unit to get it to sound decent with the stock system, but not great by any means. One of the weird things with the Mach is that it runs at 6ohm/3ohm vs 99% of all aftermarket head units, speakers, and subwoofers which use 4ohm/2ohm/1ohm ratings. My system sounds very flat with highs that hardly exist. It is my understanding that for the factory amps/speakers to sound proper, you would need to replace the Mach 460 head unit with another Mach 460 head unit. Otherwise, you will need to rewire the system.

if you wire into the mach system the main problems you will have is that most radios do not put out a high enough voltage to power the stock subs amps. This can be easily overcome with a line driver that is available at most car audio shops. I also recomend bypassing the stock tweeter amp and using some caps to take the bass out of the signal for them.

like he said before we could begin to recomend a deck we need to know what you want out of it. Navigation, ipod control, high voltage output, and of course the biggest question is $$$???
