Default Amp and Sub Install w/ pics

So I just finished the install..long annoying process, but finished. I took out the fender well, made a small hole in the gromit for my 12v...ran it under the kick panel and then under the back seat.

No wires are visible in the car.Ran them into the trunk

Then, ran my turn on/lead wire under the steering column and spliced into the back of the shaker. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...m-28011935.pdf
I used Pin 2 to splice..works perfectly.

Next was finding a place to install my amp..dont know if anyone has ever done this, but i installed it facing down in the trunk up under the rear windshield. This kept all of my trunk open..I just crawled into the trunk and drilled it even on the underside.

I then spliced into my rear speaker wires

I then had to run my ground..which i just drilled a small hole in the trunk and scratched off the small amount of paint around it.

Then just hooked everything up..and there we go. All in all, the process paid off! The stereo sounds sounds great with the rear speakers amped and the 12" Pioneer. Im still working on hiding all the wires around the amp..but I really like the positioning of everything.

Any questions just post :]

that way of mounting is not recomended as the amp is not able to cool itself as well as when it faces up. The heat collects at the top of the trunk, so keep an eye on it if it shuts off touch it and see how hot it is getting.

Twist nuts have no use in an car environment. The springs inside the nuts that hold the connection are no good under vibration and the plastic cap will fall off leaving an easily shorted/grounded connection. Crimp connectors are the minimum you should use, solder/shrink is always prefered.

Glad to hear your happy with the sound.

on the back of the box or on the back of the seats if the amp isnt a monster u should be fine with it where it is, thats where the mach systems are mounted, given they arent upside down tho

I put my amps in the spare tire well, which is only slightly better then your location. I am not saying it can't be done like that, just put your hand on the amp and see how hot it is from time to time. I just keep my AAA up to date to make up for the bad mounting place for my amps.

The amp will probably be okay... it might shut down (due to heat) on really long drives if you're hammering on it, but it's not a safety issue.

What is a safety issue are the wire nuts... those gotta go. Replace them with good crimp connectors or solder/heatshrink connections. Also, route your wires along the perimeter of the trunk and tie them down.

I have mounted a couple amps in that position and never had a problem. It depends on the amp and how hard you are pushing it.

It looks to me you could make that ground wire about a quarter as long as it is by screwing into another hole. Shorter grounds are always better....

I have a 2001 convert and had to do a bit of welding but I placed my 1000 watt amp for mine where the stock amps originally were behind the back seat and then welded a new bracket to hold the pump for the top right above the amp, was a great set up for me saving me a little bit of room in an already small trunk. Was very nice for me.
