Default Ford Headunit on the fritz.

My headunit started acting up a few weeks ago, its the stock tape player that came with the mach 460 in the 99-00 model mustangs. It will randomly turn the volume all the way up by it self, and i have to repeatedly hit the down button, which sometimes causes it to go all the way down. I called ford and they said they can send it out and have it diagnosed, but they werent clear on a price. They quoted me almost 500 dollars for a new unit. Im thinking of just getting a nice aftermarket head unit, but ive heard that some speakers may not play with an aftermarket unit. What would i need to do to get all 8 speakers working properly?

I show how I installed a deck into a mach system on page 2 of my cardomain page. It doesn't have to be that hard, depends on your deck and how you want to wire it but there are a couple of options for wiring, any deck will fit.
