Default New Head Unit - IPhone Capable - For 2000 Mustang V6 Vert

Hey Lads,
I have been reading through the various options on integrating my iphone into my 2000 vert mustangs sound system (it is the basic factory sound system).

Seems like a new headunit with the adapter to hook into the existing speakers and amp is the way to go. My questions are:

1. Is there a head unit that will allow me to attach an IPhone that people here have used that they really like? (or one they really hate that I should avoid?)

2. I read that the aux line-in will not produce the best sound from the ipod/iphone and will not allow me to control it from the headunit, is there a special ipod/iphone socket that i should be looking out for when reviewing head units?

3. Will the sound be as good as what I have now if I only change the head unit? I am happy with the quality as it is.

Thanks for the help!

I have the Alpine ida-x305 and love it. Full integration with iPhone and ipod, usb memory sticks, usb hard drives, etc. I'm adding the iMprint module this weekend which gives you 4V outputs and eq controls. This is a single DIN unit. Alpine also makes some nice double DIN's ipod/iphone compats that look great in the S197 console.

It's modular so you can add sirius, bluetooth for hands free (compatible with iphone), and outputs for cd changers etc. There is no cd player in the unit itself so you will have to add a changer for cd access.

You can get a harness adapter from Crutchfield if you plan to keep the rest of the system stock.

The Alpine ida-x305 faceplate malfunctioned within two weeks and I just installed an Eclipse 7200 mkII HU tonight. You may want to hold off on my advice till I fully test this new Eclipse .
