Audio/Visual Electronics Wired up? Everyone's got some sort of electrical modification... let's hear about it here.

I grounded it to a spot under the plastic where the rear seatbelt lays and mounts, I know it should be on the floorpan or under the seat but it seed like an easier place to scrape paint and bolt the o rings, I guess I should change that anyways, and I'm not using a distribution block for the + but rather 2 separate wires two separate fuses and both look like a pretty heavy gauge..
Are you grounded to the seatbelt bolt or some other kind of body bolt? Those are horrible electrical grounds. The best ground you can use (other than going back directly to the battery) is to scrape the paint off of a spot on the body of the car, and then use a 1/2" stinger screw and a star washer.

Do you have both amps grounded to the same spot? If so, then you are probably not having a grounding problem.

No i have them grounded to a metal panel/brace and both are grounded to the same spot i was actually thinking of taking them back to the battery to be sure, but i also want to try what ttocs said with the speakers shorting out before moving on to something more complex and tedious... maybe, as mentioned earlier its a fuse in the engine bay for the positive cables but wouldn't the fuse just blow if that was the prob? idk it seems like im gonna have to do a bit of diagnosing to get it but i know u guys have seen it all, thank you for any input, and if u guys have any more ideas please shoot while i go out and test these theories

lol I wondered why this thread was still lingering at the top.

I don't think your ground is the issue. If it was your 1200w amp would surely cut out as well.

Also, I wouldn't run the ground back to the battery. The shorter distance, the better. I'd take ttocs advice on checking the speakers as well as making sure you're running them at the correct ohm load for that amp. A short/wire touching something/incorrect ohm load for amp/a speaker wire crossed (hooked up wrong)/too much gain will all cause it to go into protective mode and shut off.

Any way you could post a link to the exact amp model that you have?

I think I got it with a bit of adjustment to the gain contols on the AB amp (which were turned down pretty low) and a more beefy fuse in the engine bay for the positive cable. I'm sure it was mostly the gain issue and I haven't tested it on a long run but I think it's good to go thank you ttocs, shaft, and mook for your help along with the rest of tha forums will post an update after a longer drive as well as the amp link when I find it

actually the best idea would be to drill a hole and use a nut/bolt with a lock washer. Stingers and can work their way out.

um yeah nothing really worked and after crawling back there i think it may be a heat issue as the ab amp is significantly hotter than the d.. idk if thats normal or not but it looks like ill be grabbing a multimeter and checking the resistance from the speakers cuz i cant think of anything else, just wondering is there a problem with using the factory speakers?

ab amps are much more inefficient and generate much more heat then a class d. IF it is getting too hot then you probably need to wire it differently or you have a bad amp.
