Help - Factory stereo draining battery
Thanks in advance for any and all help....
My wife drives a 2006 Mustang v6. It is equiped with the factory shaker 500 stereo system. Recently we have been having problems with the battery going dead. I put an amp meter in line with the negative terminal and battery cable and started pulling fuses. I have a 1.5 - 1.8 amp draw with everything turned off and all doors closed. When I pull the stereo fuse in the engine compartment the draw goes away. I know the stereo draws a small amount of power to hold presets and such, but 1.5 amps seem way too high. Any sugestions????

yes 1.5 amp draw will kill a battery over night! It should be around a 100milli amps.there maybe a problem with the deck not turning off,i remember reading something about this.Have you tried turning the radio off, before turning the car off?

You'll have to replace the head-unit. Since it's out of warranty I'd just go with a cheaper pioneer double-din dvd unit myself. Get more from it, sound better, and won't kill your battery.

I can't say for certain. You'd have to use the diagnostic/testing procedure in that service link I posted previously to know for sure.
