Installing Shaker 500 in 2012?
I just got my 2012 GT and got it as base as I could for customizing and tuning purposes but I kind of regret now not getting the Shaker 500 system like my 06 GT had. I was curious how intensive it would be to install the Shaker 500 system that comes in these cars or if I would be better off just installing an aftermarket head unit with a small amp and subs? I don't want teeth rattling bass but this system I have now has absolutely none!

Get a pair of door panels to facilitate the install of the 8" subs in the doors. Go aftermarket and don't look back honestly since you're starting with the base radio. It'll be a lot easier, and probably cheaper to just run your own wires, HU and amp.
I'm sticking with my Shaker 500 HU and going aftermarket on everything else. It's a wiring nightmare and it's hard to find 'accurate' wiring diagrams despite what's already out there and most of all, schematics for the Shaker HU itself. There's something like four different versions of the HU from '10-'12 too. It's enough to drive a guy crazy just thinking about mixing the factory with the aftermarket.

thanks, I appreciate that very much. I have a shop that I will probably have do it for me so it's a nice clean install though I really prefer doing all work on my car myself too. Just sound systems aren't my strong point lol Appreciate the input though
