Default Shaker 500 Wont Illuminate?

So I bought my 2006 Mustang 7 months ago, always took for granted my display was the only thing that light up on the Shaker Head unit. Then I saw another Mustang lit up at night, and realized more then just the display (stations/CD) lights up. Does anyone else have this problem? Or does anyone know a fix? And yes my dash dimmer is turned up all the way on the brightest setting. Any help would be great, thanks all.

A) Are you saying just 1 or 2 of the buttons illuminate? If so, then there is no fuse/easy fix. LED's or circuit for them on the radio is the issue.

See linked image below for reference of what the faceplate of the radio looks like, and the LEDs:

In case you wanted to pull the faceplate later and figure it out, the LED replacement tutorial by Deric should give you a walk-thru to work with:

B) If you're saying it's not lighting at all. Then the radio either has an issue or the CAN-BUS signal isn't being sent to it(there is NO wired illumination or dimmer to the radio harness). In which case you might wish to ask the previous owner if he ever noticed it or not. Possible that they simply didn't turn that function on, or switched the radio out without carrying over the data for configuration.

If the above, and you can contact the guy that owned previously... Ask him if the dealer ever replaced it under warranty. I'd bet a vital organ that it was replaced due to it being crappy to begin with, and they never programmed the dang radio. If so, I'd make that dealership do the as-built data fix for free.

it is
necessary to perform programmable module
installation (PMI) prior to removal of the old audio
unit. This information must be uploaded into the
new audio unit once installed. Failure to perform
PMI on the new audio unit may result in inoperative
backlighting and/or diagnostic trouble code (DTC)
B2477. If communication cannot be established with
old audio unit to download this information, as built
data will need to be used. As built data can be
obtained at the Professional Technician Society
(PTS) website or at www.motorcraft.com. For
additional information, refer Workshop Manual
Section 415-01 and 418-01.
I'd bring up the shaker's diagnostic menu as well, to see if any codes are thrown. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...965-post3.html

I found how to run the diagnostic and it is corrupted. It works great just no lights (except the display), so I can at least live with it for now.

B1342 shows back up after another self-test? Otherwise, if it's just the B2477 code(meaning it got swapped out without the information being transferred to that new unit), down the road when you get the itch the as built data can be modified to fix that.
