New head unit, back up cam, sat radio, navigation advice
Hello All ! I have been looking to replace the shaker 500 head unit with an after market. Can anyone give me any tips as far as installation hints, best antenna locations (hopefully inside mount) or even equipment? I was kinda wanting a sony 7.1" screen I looked at, but it has a slide down screen that crutchfield said "may or may not work" in my 2008. Whatever that means. I ssume it has something to do with hitting the control *****.

Were I in the market for a solid performing unit, I'd probably get one of the newer generation pioneer double-din touch-screen units. Fairly cheap, decent RMS power, with good sound, easy install/setup, and so long as it's not too new, easy to bypass the lockout crap for NAV/video.
Just go through a few of the pages here for the more popular ones. FAQ in this section (2nd link, stickied, tech and information thread) has install walk-thrus for our 05-09's as well.

Tech articles? https://mustangforums.com/forum/audi...-articles.html
As to choices, just clicking thru the first few pages:https://mustangforums.com/forum/audi...lectronics-28/
I'm sure there are some with preferences who might chime in, but I'd have a look at pioneer's website( http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...PS-Navigation/ ) then maybe sonicelectronix.com to see what they have on hand for a reasonable price.

Pioneer x940bt
Hello, have to agree with Wayne who helped me out tremendously, I just installed a Pioneer x940bt, using a scosche fdsr harness, scosche dash install kit, and a Koolertron bu camera. I also installed a pac wri-p remote hookup, and a pioneer cd-r510 remote, if you have steering wheel controls add a pac swi intyerface to retain usage. I am extremely happy with the x940bt, as it has a volume ****, if you don't care about the ****, you can get a z140bt, which is a larger screen, and HD radio. The sound with oem speakers is 1000% improved, and the ipod control, dvd/cd/usb/and sd card functions are 1st rate. One caveat about the new z140, and the x940, the voice recognition does not work with the nav controls, just the av and bt functions. The older pioneer units up to the x930, and z130's do have voice recognition that does carry over to the nav system.
Also be sure to read the following thread as it is invaluable to getting the unit installed properly, and read up on the bypass, super easy to do.

I have mine on my license plate, it seems to work best for aftermarket for me, you can aim it, and you can switch vehicles with it easy enough... i have had 3 different vehicles with the same camera without issues.
