sorry for the thread revival, but i was thinking of doing the same thing with the 6.5 and the tweeter.
tico, i have the base system, im thinking about adding 4 of those around the stock locations and amping with the stock head unit.
question, do you have a subwoofer too? how is the bass output with that set up? im trying to stay away from adding a sub in the trunk but i think this set up might work

I have a 12" JL w3 in the trunk in a custom box that I built, I put it behind the wheel well on the passenger side. I didn't go for hard hitting, but for SQ, so I might not be as loud as other systems, but I like it. I actually found myself turning it down a bit because it was too loud compared to the other speakers. I amped everything, and installed the amps on a shelf I built in the trunk. it hangs from the rear deck underneath the speakers. I hope that helps.

SQ is exactly what I'm going for. I'm leaning towards 5.25" with a tweeter for the doors and thinking the same for the rears. Did you do your rear speakers as well?
I'm wondering if I can get a decent amount of bass from the 5.25 speakers alone
Otherwise I'll throw a 10" in the trunk.
With your woofer in the trunk, do you get a lot of vibration?

I did all 4 speakers, the picture earlier in the thread is my door setup, with 5.25 speakers you can fit them in the single 6x8 stock location, it makes it a lot easier since they have, and some come with, brackets that match up pretty easily. I don't think you need component speakers for the rears unless you want to put your tweeters in a separate location, I have 5x7 coaxial in the back and they sound great. Focals as well.
and for the bass, you will want a sub, smaller ones can't really get the volume with the low freqs for good sq IMHO.
a 10 would work just fine, you can fit a 12, or even a 15 if you really find one you like.

So let's assume I run component 5.25"/tweeters in the front, 6x8" 2-way coaxials in the rear and a 10 in the trunk all with the stock head unit.
Would I be better off with a speaker level 4 channel amp to power the doors and rear (no LOC right?) and a separate 2 channel amp to run the subs with a LOC.
Or should I get a speaker level 5 channel amp to run everything?

2 amps
I would go with 2 dedicated amps, there are lots of good brands, and usually the more you pay, the better quality.
Look for a good 4ch and a good sub amp, some are mono some are 2ch. you can pretty easily go without the 4ch to start if you want to save some money, then add it later.
Either way make sure you get a good dual amp wiring kit, 4 gauge or bigger.
It is also a pain in the butt to find a good ground in our cars, no frames to have good conductivity so you might have to try a few spots before you get rid of the alternator noise
to play devils advocate, the 5ch amps can be decent, and cheaper than buying 2 amps, but I don't think you will get as good of sound. there is a bigger possibility of noise crossover with the single amp.
Hope that helps
