Has anyone used a cooling fan for their amp? If so, how did you wire it up? Can you just connect the positive on the fan to the positive on the amp and the same with the ground? Will the fan turn on and off with the amp as well?

there are a few considerations, is the amp 12VDC? is the fan 12VDC? Is the amp switched on by the stereo? Will the fan cause noise on the signals? (you may hear a buzz or hum through the speakers)

I assume the amp is 12V, but not positive. Yes the amp will be switched on by the stereo (that's what I'm shooting for anyways). As for the fan causing noise...i hope not. I plan on mounting it on the opposite side of the RCA cables. So not sure what will happen.

you could always wire the fan up to a temp switch like for a radiator fan and set it to turn on when the amp gets to whatever temp point you want. You could just atache the probe to the heatsinks or the case. Then all you have to do is hook the fan up to any switched 12v source.

Don't do that. That is an excellent way to get noise into your sound system.

Do take a standard power relay and connect it accordingly.

I hooked 2 up to a truck I had, had one blow and one suck, they were behind the seats of an F-150 that I had. I hooked them up to the negative, and then the turn-on wire from the HU and I never had any buzzing or overheating . might work for you too.
