Recommended rear view camera?
#2
Seems like the best fit for the 05-09 is a license plate mounted rear view camera. The other's don't seem to be able to integrate into the rearend of the car very well. Has anyone tried replacing the trunks key lock with a rear view camera?
Your input would be appreciated.

I have had a camera on both my 06 and 13 mustangs, I just had the licence plate one and it worked out very well. I haven't heard of anyone putting a camera where the key goes, but it would make sense as long as it can fit.

Here is one I found where it wasn't small enough to fit through the hole, but supposedly worked out....

I'm working on trying to come up with a similar plan, but with one just small enough to go through the hole so it has a full 120 degree view..
What would really be helpful is if I knew what the size of the keyhole was, and of the same hole in the GT emblem / fake gas cap, as well as the depth of it.

Every time I googled for research, I kept seeing a picture of the gas cap off a gt500 with a pretty nice looking camera built in. I finally found the post that the pic is attached to and he gives a small description of what he did. I'm trying to contact him for more specifics, like what camera he used. It looks promising as long as he gets back to me...

there was someone on here a while back that put the camera in the keyhole. If you don't want to loose the key on the trunk, I was able to move my keyhole with out much trouble at all. I was deleting the hole for a smoother look so rather the loose it for good I just moved it down to a spot that use to hold bold in it. With a flip down license plate fame it hides the new keyhole behind it.

I've only ever used the trunk key lock once or twice to see if it actually worked, lol. I usually just use the remote. I think I found a camera. Now I need to fabricate a plate to keep it snug in the keyhole and a bracket to keep it from falling out. Going to use some rubber sheeting to keep it water tight / sealed.
I have a Pioneer Z110BT (software upgraded to a Z130) that has capability of being used as a back up camera and split screen with a map while driving. To get the split screen working, I need a switched power source. I wonder if there is a switched power source in the rear of the car. I read that there might be, at least in the 2010's but not sure (backup lights are not switched). If not, I'll run power to the fuse box / sjb. If I do need to run to the sjb, I'll probably need to get some additional wiring since the one attached to the camera isn't long enough.

On my car the switched power source I used was the antenna... but it is a different antenna than yours so that won't work. You could possibly find one in the wire looms that are under the carpet in the trunk, but I would be VERY CAREFUL on what you do to those... might get a surprise if you tap into the wrong one.
