Default Improving on 2014 Shaker Speakers

We have a 2014 Mustang Convertible Pony pkg, Premium with a V-6 Auto..
Would like some experienced help with info & choosing New Speakers.

What is the amplifier wattage & capabilities ??
I don't plan on changing head unit as it has Great Features & I assume more power & quality over the std. units..

Should I purchase 2 stage or 3 stage speakers ??

What size is a really good fit & sound ??

As I understand it the Shaker & Speakers are unique to the 2013 & 2014 models!

Over @ Crutchfield they don't have any '13 '14 recommended fits?

Over the Radio ours says just "SHAKER"

All quality Help & Info appreciated !!

Thanks Ol Pal

the speaker mounting locations didn't change for MY2013, so you can still use any 5x7/6x8 that will fit a 2005-2012 Mustang. For the front doors you'll need the OE speaker mounting spacers from a 2010-2012 car, though; the '13 uses a two-way component set built into a custom bracket. The other difference is that the 2013-2014 Shaker system uses 2-ohm door and rear speakers, along with an 8-channel external amplifier. If you replace the speakers it may or may not play as loud. Whether it'll sound "better" is entirely up to you.

Appreciate your info JZ, 2 ohm speakers kinda ticks me off..
No wonder I'm not caring for the sound, I was expecting more from Fords faulted Shaker system in the Premium model of the Mustang.

Also explains why crutchfield doesn't have any recommended speakers for the 2014 Pony !
I guess that makes it a moot point as to what the watts are on the amp ??

Color me DOWN !!

the speaker impedance has nothing to do with it. speakers don't sound "better" or "worse" just because they're 2 or 4 ohm.

Looks like Ford is making it harder and harder for us to upgrade the sound systems! This is strange, many people buy Mustangs because we love to make them better!
Ford uses 2 ohm speakers because they can claim higher wattage with the same amps than if they used 4 ohm speakers. I've never heard 2 ohm speaker that sound as good as 4 or 8 ohm (this does not mean they aren't out there. )
You may not lose any volume by moving to 4 ohm speakers. The theory of 2 ohm is an amp can push more current into a 2 ohm speaker than a 4 ohm speaker. This can give you a higher wattage rating, current squared times voltage = wattage. (max into 4 ohms on a 12V system is about 12 W, 2 ohms is about 24W) The output of a speaker depends on the strength of the electromagnet in the speaker coil, which is determined by the amps and the number of turns. Often, a 2 ohm speaker will have fewer turns in the coil than a 4 ohm speaker, and even with a higher wattage being output from the amp, the volume may be the same. I'm guessing your external amp uses the same output stage as the 2012, and should work fine with a good set of 4 ohm speakers. Several people have made spacers and adapters out of wood that have worked really well to put in the speakers they really want. One advantage of all of this work, you can put in a nice amp without blowing out your new speakers, the factory 25W speakers won't last long with a good amp.

Still not aware of Shaker wattage output ??

So can I get a good 4-some of quality speaker [either 2 or 3 way] rated @ 4 OHM & still keep the Stock Shaker Woofers ??

My math says the total power in peak Watts is 190W, or 128 watts RMS. I think my shaker 500 (2012) is 500w Peak. Each channel for yours is about 24w Peak, there are 8 "channels". Each door sub uses 2 "channels" since they use dual voice coils.
Lots of us have replaced the subs with Shelby subs-they need an amp to power them. We typically run the speaker outputs from the rear speakers to the amp inputs since they seem to have the best bass.
Shelby has a complete upgrade for the subs with an amp, and a big sub for the trunk if you want to go that far. I have the door subs and amp in mine, I have a few friends that have done the same. I get lots of complements on the sound.

The 8-channel amp runs internally on battery voltage (no boost power supply) so it can output about 8.5 volts RMS clean per channel, so roughly 35 watts x 8 at 2.0 ohms. 'bout 280 watts RMS total system power.

the woofers run off of independent channels, so replacing the door/package tray speakers won't affect them. 4 ohm speakers will be getting half of the power, but if the speaker's sensitivity is higher then it'll more or less be a wash in terms of how loud they play.

whatever floats your boat. Like I said, for the front doors you'll need the speaker mounting brackets/spacers from a 2010-2012 in order to mount aftermarket speakers. Shouldn't be too hard to scare up a pair somewhere.

So I gotta ask this question O.T.
I've got a Samsung 1000 watt 5.1 system with woofer hooked to our TV set.
[which seems to have puny speakers.
Can I hook up my higher quality Polk 8 ohm home speakers to this receiver..??
In your opinion, could it hurt anything & would it sound better @ a decent volume setting ??

Thanks JZ , appreciate your time & sharing of info !!

there's no way in hell that thing can actually output 1,000 watts. Maybe that's the ILS rating (If Lightning Strikes it.) I especially like how they say it draws 70 watts from the wall yet we're supposed to believe it can conjure up 930 more to send to the speakers.

you can hook up any speaker you like so long as its impedance is at or higher than what the amp is rated for. though the Samsung likely has crossovers set for those little piece of junk satellite speakers they include, so it won't send any bass to better speakers.
