Question L.E.D. question

So after re-attempting to do the interior L.E.D. swap myself again, I went back to my steering wheel controls which "weren't working." I'm talking about the cruise control switch with three buttons (reset, speed up, and slow down). The first L.E.D. works just fine, and always has since I did the swap. The second two don't, so I figured maybe I put them in in the wrong direction. So I go to take one of them off. Now here's the weird part. When my soldering gun touched one of the L.E.D.'s solder, they all light up....very, very dimly, but they do for sure light up. I am not very good with electronics, so I am completely stumped. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

Not sure what was going on, but I got it going now. Swapped the polarity of them and everything is working. I'll post in the bragging rights later tonight or tomorrow when its dark enough to see them.

um, what was going on is you had them connected backwards. LEDs are Light Emitting Diodes, and diodes only conduct electricity one way.

Yes I got that...apparently the way the stock are marked verse the way the new L.E.D.'s are marked are exact opposite (handy I know)! I ended up getting it to swap and install great! Still not sure why when I touch one the sides of a L.E.D. that is hooked up that they all light up (perhaps they convert some of the heat energy into electricity).....I don't know what, it was just weird. But it's all working great now! I put some pics up in the bragging rights thread. I haven't done the door ones yet (door locks and window) as I ran out of time, but maybe this weekend. I have my sons Powerwheels Mustang which is next to get modded. Doing a 24volt ESC set up.

unlike regular light bulbs, LEDs only need a small amount of current passing through in order to light up. a low-intensity illumination LED typically only need about 20 milliAmps for full rated brightness; a tiny bit of "leakage" current passing over you can be enough to light up an LED.

Everything thought of doing these. I think they're pretty cool. I've got something similar on my bike from Raw Designs
