Default Need Help on Gears

okay, i can either get new gears or a tuner. For Gears its between 3.73's and 4.10's. And Tuners its between sct livewire and diablo. Im leaning towards getting 3.73 gears but i dont know much about it. If i get new gears will it mess up my gas mileage and how much is installation??? and if someone can explain the dif between 3.73 and 4.10 that would be helpfull. Puls if i should get a tuner or gears first. ThankYou

You need a tuner if you get gears, so I would reccomend do them at the same time or get the tuner first I personally like diablo better but most shops use sct, as for gears go with 3.90 or 4.10's

If yourstuck between getting 3:73 and 4:10's, just go with a 3:90. Fuel mileage won't be affected adversly. You could bo either way tuner then gears, gears then tuner. These cars won't react like the 05+'s. Installation of gears in my area are around 250 give or take the mood of the shop. You'd be able to control you fuel mileage better with a dyno tune vs. a mail order tune. But you'll be able to feel you power better with gears.

+1, you need tuner and gears together. (Speedometer etc.)

I have a Livewire, andthey are still trying to get it rightwith firmware updates (most recent update was only a couple weeks ago) but I do like it.

4.10's will give you tons of low end ie. launching but take away from top end but real men race from a dig so who cares, as far a tuner you only need it to calibrate the speedo otherwise you'll be like 5-10 miles an hour off i have a sct 4 bank chip but i just ordered a live wire tuner its in the mail as we speak so ill be puttin it up for sale as soon as i get my car retuned with the live wire so if you wait ill let ya know, but i do recomend tuner/chip with the gears.

I say go for 3.73's or 3.90's. He is probally running 17's so unless he runs a taller tire his mph in 4th gear for the 1/4 mile will be 115-118 mph if he goes with 4.10's. As far as a tuner I say go for SCT Xcal II or III. americanmuscle.com has a great price on a package deal, just give them a call and they will give you a discount code for 5-6% off just for being a mustangforums.com member.

dont get 3:90's!! theres a reason ford doesnt make them. they whine like a little bitch!! if u are not planning to do any big power adders, then 4.10's all the way, but if your gonna do a sc or tt down the road get the 3:73's. as far as tuners go, diablo is better in imo..later

Theres a reason why ford doesn't make any of there gears. A few major companies make them all and ford buys them and puts their stamp on them. As far as why Ford doesn't use them neither here nor there. But IMO if richmond makes them, they should be quality as their other products. If the 3:90's your refering to whine, they weren't installed properly.

What do you mean his 1/4 mile speed will be 115-118 MPH? If you're saying gears alone will increase his trap speed from 98 MPH to ~116 MPH, then I highly doubt it - unless you're talking about on slicks. If you're planning on getting supercharged eventually, then get 3.73s, otherwise 4.10s all the way! I say get the Diablo tuner as well, but I haven't used either so I really can't say from experience.
