Late 90's, early 2000's had quite a few transmission issues. That's all I know of. We had a 99 but sold it before it gave us any problems.

They know nothing, that's a grand cherokee not a cherokee lol.

Given how maintenance cost are on high mileage (read: neglected maintenance) jeeps it might not be as cheap as you hope. Course that depends entirely on if the issues bother you. Rough ride didn't bug me but my friend with a cherokee spent about 1000 trying to get rid of all the nvh.

yea, i can tell by the way the front end is. I don't care about a rough ride. just driving back and forth to work. if it gets me there and back, I'm happy

Wasn't calling you out for the misidentification btw. I'd say you could find a lower mileage one for the same price or close though.

you never really know with a used car.

could be completely fine for a while then crap out on you.

do the usual look at stuff. look for leaks around the trans, oil pan, heads, fuel inhectors etc. do the sniff test (coolant, gas burning oil etc) and see if any smoke comes out at start up. and look for torn tie rod end boots and at the under carriage.
