Ugh where to get new key cut?

Sometimes it isn't just getting a key cut, if the key has any type of electronics in it there is usually more involved. I am not real familiar with the security systems on the newer 5.0s (Heck, I'm not that familiar with the security system on my 2007 model), but sometimes you actually have to take the vehicle to the dealer. In some cases, they have to "marry" the key to the car so they will "communicate" with each other. Sometimes can be done by reading another key from the vehicle, sometimes they have to plug in to the OBD port and scan the vehicle. Might be worth a call to the dealer to ask that question. I couldn't imagine a 2013 model vehicle not having SOME type of electronics in the key for security.
You would be amazed at how many people I have come into work wanting to get a key made and then stare at me in disbelief when I tell them about how much it will cost them at the dealer.

I cut keys at work as well, and if someone gets a key cut and sticks it into the ignition without the chip being programmed, the car will lock up.
If your dealer did it for 15 thats a great deal, locally i think the average is 75.

The thing is maybe I didn't make it clear enough. I didn't need the key programmed only cut. I can program the damn thing myself it's already got the right chip in it. $75 just to cut a key is like getting bent over and taking it up the *** with no lube.

Right, but the key cutter isnt going to take the risk/ take your word on that. Theres no doubt in my mind that somebody would either assume they could program their own key or think they could get away without doing so and put there car in security shut down. Then the key cutter will hear about it.
A dealer will because theyll handle the programming. So essentially its a liability issue. And most people dont know how to program keys on their own, so they end up at a dealer anyway
Why they have to charge 75? Im guessing because they can. I agree with it being an outragous price.
