UPDATE #2
So the other day at work I noticed someone removing window tint. Then i saw what they were using and thought...."Hmmm...I have one of those!" So got home and busted out the trusty steam cleaner!!
It's just the right temp for these stripes it seems.
This is where I'm at as of yesterday, just picking at it for a few hours after work each day
While the steamer is heating up, I've been running the eraser wheel on the rear end f the car, which is at least clean and mostly adhesive free.
Also, started fixing the passenger mirror cover which was marred with bird claw marks.
Here's a pic of the tougher areas after sanding them down with 2000 grit
and an after pic. I'm using a pretty aggressive cutting cream (has aluminum oxide in it) with a DA microfiber cutting pad (speed 5), then a slower pass with a less aggressive compound (speed 2) to smooth it out prior to polish and buffing
There's still 2 tiny little spots i'm not happy with, that look like they are past the paint and into the plastic. Will try to fill & blend those, but might need to repaint the covers.

I don't normally encourage the use of Dawn to wash your car, but I needed the extra sodiums/sulfates properties in it to help remove any remaining dirt, trapped dirt under the stripes and left over residue from the stripes. Car was then wiped down with rubbing alcohol.
Now I have a clean slate to work with!
After washing...you can still see the outline from the stripes. Compound should even this out, or as a last result, a little edge sanding with 3000 grit.
Now onto the FUN stuff! Paint correction!
