Usually heat will kill it temporarily. Most newer tools have an overheat mode that monitors this. You checked the batter for labeling? Think most of them have an operating range. I keep mine in the garage, but its built into the house. My dad keeps his in a storage shed no issues, so unless you're keeping them in a 130 degree environment should be fine. Cold I have no experience with lol.

Ryobi has a great system and is cheaper. Dewalt keeps.changing battery styles/voltages. Plus they overcharge it seems. I got a Hitachi drill for cheaper than dewalt and it came with a case and a flashlight. I use the crap out of it too, lots of metal work.
I haven't either. Splurged a few years ago on a dewalt sawzall with the nickel cadmium batteries. Can't even cut 8 feet on some 1/2" plywood.
