Since for most of us this will be an overnight trip, any ideas on where to stay? I normally like to book ahead of time if possible.

That gas station is pretty good sized. I have stopped there many times on my way to and from the shows in Lenoir, Charlotte etc.
And as a suggestion for food..http://www.shatleysprings.com/...It is on the way (sort of) back down to Charlotte, Lenoir etc. AFTER the BOTD.
I had never heard that road called The Back Of The Dragon. Ive ridden it many times on bikes and even took a 1971 Ford Pinto with a failing U-Joint over the mountain. It made it till Hungry Mother Park in Marion and let go.
