Everyone needs to remember,,,,, there is "right", we all know how to do the right thing, and we all will pretty much agree with what is right, then there is "legal", since the kid that bought the car is a minor, the seller might be lucky to get the car back as it was, and then to not get sued for selling the car to a minor in the first place... mamma might say that her son has suffered "permanant damage" because of this stressfull ordeal that the seller has thrust upon her little boy..... the punative award might be large....
Pay the money, take the car and count your lucky stars if this is all it costs...

Ah, this is a shame for all involved. But, if the car is in the same condition as when you sold it, then you should probably just take it back (if you haven't spent the money). Sounds like the kid made a mistake, and in this economic climate, who knows how badly they need the money back?
Good luck regardless of how this turns out!

I second this, even if you couldn't technically get money from the kid you sold it to because he is a minor, since he can't enter into a contract he basically took the car without your permission and his legal guardian is liable for property damage under Tort Law (Conversion and probably Trover).
