Default Is this a good deal

1968 Coupe (289 v-6)
5Speed transmission (yes 5 speed)
Cd player
Rebuilt engine and transmission (I forget what the current owner said the transmission was)

Minor rust on the body (rear passenger quarter and door)

Asking 5000

I found this car and now I'm just debating to buy it, the car was rebuilt for a friend of the current owners daughter who didnt want it due to the lack of an AC, so they are trying to get rid of the car. It runs really good, I had a mechanic friend of mine look the car over and he said it looks good, the engines in great shape, theres a little rattle on rough(er) roads but on a smooth street its fine.

Any thought? I'm really tempted to go pick the car up and just be done with my mustang search.

It would have to be a V8 to be a 289. They made the 200 which was an I6. To me it doesn't sound like a bad price.

I agree that sound pretty good if your mechanic checked it out and gave it its blessing. As long as it isn't rusted out and the interior is in decent shape I would go for it.

The only rust that was found was a little bit on the rear passenger quarter and the door on the same side, its really minor and we have already found the new parts to go on there instead

I just ok'ed the purchase with the wife, now to go pick it up I finally found my pony

If that is it on the car and nothing underneath that is great, go for it. Congrats on the car. You are going to need to post up pics when you bring it home.

Something I didnt think to ask about but my wife brought up, the radiator fan isn't covered. We probably want to purchase a cover correct? I mean I don't suppose its hurting anything (except for limbs placed in the blades while moving) but it seems like a smarter thing to do correct?

Fan shrouds provide some degree of safety, but their main function is for better cooling.

All cars of this era, and i think even up to the mid 80's had exposed fans, im sure you could get hurt with one, but common sense should protect you form that

So just put one on for slightly better cooling?
