does it do it in nuetral
aside form something in the carb which is likely
it could be a tranny problem not letting the motor spin, almost like leaving the clutch in on a stick shift

We're trying to find a single barrel carb that we can even just try out to see if that is it. I'm willing to pay someone just to borrow it to try it out! It idles fine in park or neutral-just can't step on the gas. I can't understand why the new pony carb doesn't seem to be working correctly...

Here is a fordsix forum that I found while on the internet. These guys might have some good advice since the site is all about 6 cylinder engines. I had a straight 6 at one time that had a dead spot in it and it would sometimes stall out on me too. I could never figure it out.
