Question so i got these CRAZY ideas...

i'm looking at getting a '67 mustang here in a couple weeks, and thoughts of motor swaps have been running in my head constantly. everything from modifying the 289 to a 460 to an LS1 (please don't hurt me!) haha. but i think probably the most practical and TASTEFUL idea that i've had was a 2005 4.6/5 (or 6?) speed that has bolt-ons only. i'd like to not do any cutting/welding, you know, make it so it can be returned to original without much trouble. i'm mainly a chevy guy so this is kinda new to me. what do y'all think?

Wouldn't call them crazy. If you get it, it is your car so you do the mods you want to it.

oh i think that an old school mustang with a modern mustang motor sounds like a great idea. keep it all mustang, but have the newer, more efficient powertrain (not to mention suspension and brakes). i just don't want to do any major modification like i said. do you think it would take some extensive mods like that to put that motor/tranny combo in it?

I think you have to either notch or get rid of the shock towers.

to get a mod motor in there or even the 460, your going to have to get rid of the shock towers. if you want something different that should bolt in without much fab work, i would go LS1 or a 351w/c or even build up the 289. you can always stroke em

ok well i don't know about you ford boys haha but i love the LS1. and i would love to put one in there. but what all do you think that would entail? and i don't even know if the shifter will pop up in the right spot (by the way that's the only cutting i wouldn't mind doing, for the shifter).

hm. well that's cool i didn't even get flamed for wanting to put a chevy motor in a mustang haha. y'all seem like a nicer group than the F-body guys. those guys flame each other!! i used to go to a local hang out but i had enough of those guys' attitude. just cuz i was the only guy there that ran a 13.0..... my car was real nice too, just not as fast. i remember one dude with a bolt-on camaro talking $h1T to a pulleyed terminator cobra hahaha. wow... but yeah i think an LS1/T56 would be awesome in that '67 stang. how much do they weigh stock? 3200??

A fastback with a V8 weighs 3400lbs. So I think it would be around 3200. I got flamed when I asked about a chevy motor in my mustang. Talked about getting a 4 bolt main 350 block and building it.

67 coupe with a big block is about 3000lbs.I'd go ls2 or ls7 forget a ls1.I wouldn't use a mod motor a lot of work for a tiny pay off and its not the best engine made. For a big block id build a 429scj or a 557 with p51 heads.Your wallet is the limit on what you can do to these cars.
