Jeep guy tring to build a 65 for the wife. I need help with the casting codes!!!!
Howdy all. I'm a Jeep guy and the wife wants a 65 Mustang and what the wife want... I'm having to learn a lot.
Got the car(vin5R07C215053). This is a C code right? Isn't that good?
The engine I have is a 302 freshly rebuilt (pulled the valve covers and the pan to verify). It looks good. Code is D9OE-6015-E3A 8L2 which I understand to be a 1979. (I'd like more info about it if anyone knows).
I just picked up an engine tranny combo. The tranny is an AOD the tag says PKA 1 78 046783 F30 E1SP CA. I think this tells me that it's an 81? Can anyone tell what car my donor was? I think I'm gonna use the tranny. Everyone seems to think the AOD is the way to go.
I'm having trouble identifying the engine attached to the tranny. It has 80 stamped above the starter but it's intake is way more complicated. EGR, carb base plate, loads of vacuum sensors... The only code I can find by the starter says EOAE D30. It has to be between 78-85 because of the EGR and carb. How do you tell if it's a 302 or 351c/w...? There is a sticker on the valve covers that say C1 BJ340AB C 1-20G, R 01, S 26. I'm hoping I can use the distributor and harmonic balancer on my 302.
Also, there is a pipe that comes off the back of the heads that seems to be exhaust. My 79 has the same holes. Can I plug these? what do they do?
Any info about this stuff would be great!!!!
I hope you guys are as good as my buddies in the Jeep forums because I need help!!

Its a 65 built in san jose ca its a coupe and a 289 2 barrel carb.If the door tag is there decode it here http://www.mustangdecoder.com/ the Cleveland died in mid 70s the aod didn't come out in 80 so if it was in a car its probably a 302 most cars did not have a 351 but some did.
