Why the hell do "Rally Pac" tach/clocks cost so much? Favorite tach alternatives?

They look really cool installed. When the interior is other than black, the later style Pac is colored to match.

And of course the early style matches the early style speedo:

Thats what I figured initially, that is it a high quality, low volume selling item. I still can't believe how much they were back in the day.

I just wish someone made a simple metal housing that looked like a rally pac that accepted generic small gauges etc. I'd rather have oil press/watertemp/ or volts for that second guage.

The term "Rally Pac" was not conjured out of thin air. A popular auto activity in the 50's and 60's was the "Rally", where navigation and timing were important. That's why the clock in the xr7, mach1 and many others had a settable fourth hand. Any sports car of the day had a clock, and it wasn't there to help you get to work on time.

Well, the tooling for a stamped housing would be similar cost. Of course, you can always make your own…

Thats awesome! Do you know what it came off of?

Don't know if you still can, but at one time you could buy a bare repop rally pac housing to put your own gauges in, though it was somewhere in the $200 range.

Though maybe not correct, I took my brand new repop rally pac apart and painted it to match the interior.
