I have a 351 cleveland in a 71 convertible mustang without aircon. My question is changing headers.
I have a pretty good tool range, so i am comfortable with this side, but is there anything i need to know and what exactly is the skill level on a 1-10. 1 being putting oil in, 10 being rebuilding the gearbox, 4 being changing plugs etc.. 6 changing distributor etc..
Can you tell me the hrs required, any tips about easy of job and if i need to have special tools etc,
Thanks
David

It shouldn't be that hard if you already have headers on the car. Its easier if you pull the plug wires from the side you are working on. Special tools would be a good jack, jack stands, 7/16" wrench or socket/ratchet, and a 9/16" wrench and socket for the collector flange. Make sure the car is safely on the jack stands before you get under it. They come out the bottom easier than out the top, but you need to get the car about 2' or more in the air, so small short stands might not work.
Dont tighten any bolts until the bolts are all in, if you do some wont go in. Disconnect the battery first just to be sure you dont short anything, chances are slim on Fords but its a good idea, you dont want anything starting or moving while you do it. If you have a clutch you will probably need to pull the linkage to get the headers out.
changing headers is quite easy, just annoying. while my headman's are good headers, they are a pain in the ass to take off and put back on simply because the bolt holes are SO close to the tubes, i.e. not even enough room for a small washer.
so yeah, like everyone said: difficulty level: 2. frustration level: probably much higher, haha
