Cal Custom sold clear valve covers and distributor caps back in the day. Saw a few installed. Usually the engine heat would glaze the plastic and they'd become cloudy.

There's a reason you don't see them anymore.

Cool idea, but I wouldn't waste the bucks.

I just looked for them and they did make lexan valve covers back in the day but they're not on that pic you posted. I saw a cool set on ebay that just had a widow cut out. I thought they looked better than the all clear.

Plastics (actually the v/c in the picture is made of Polycarbonate) have come a long way, it is amazing how clear these things are, the one in the photo also has "anti glare" coating similar to what they use on glasses these days, thus no reflection from the flash.

I don't know about the paint on the head though, I would like to add some color but I keep imagining big chunks of paint plugging up the oil pickup...

Take a good look at that pic again. There is no valve cover. You can see the empty bolt holes in the head and there is no gasket as was already pointed out.

Yea, the v/c is just sitting on the head without a gasket.

If I buy them I will want to get some blue gaskets to go with my engine, and paint the inside of the head blue. I think some stainless button-head torex screws would be the bomb...

I think a clear water pump and a clear carburetor would really finish "the look"..

The clear valve covers could be a cool idea, but I agree that if they are plastic or acrylic or whatever they will probably end up looking yellow and cloudy etc.

I always wanted a clear distributor cap and spark plug wires.

I have heard they don't work well with any of the newer ignition components.

JMD, I think I might be one of the only people on this forum that "gets" you. I think you and I would see eye to eye on a lot of things, lmao.

JMD ---->

I hear summit is getting ready to introduce their clear acrylic blocks, but only for a Chevy 350. Hopefully they'll get around to some SBFs soon.

I'm not buying it, there is no way there are valve covers in that picture. These are pretty cool though http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/clear...Q5fAccessories
