Question 1967 Mustang Transmission Problem

Need some help. Finished theresoration on a 67 Mustang coupe with a 289,
C4 transmission. Everything is worrking well except the transmission will not shift up. I put the car in Drive, it starts off in low and will not shift up (it did once, but can not get it to do it again). I checked the linkage, that seems OK. The kickdown is not hooked up at this time, could this be the issue?

I am hoping it is something simple?
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

Welcome to the forum. You will get more help if you post this in the technical section instead of the general discussion section.

Did the tranny work before? How long has the restoration taken? The obvious thing is does it have the proper amount and type if ATF? You also need the tranny to throttle cable hooked up. Hook the cable up and see if it will auto shift. Make sure the kickdown is adjusted correctly and the linkage moves freely or the tranny will not shift or not shift right. Check the kickdown linkage for movement. If it is not moving freely, that might explain your problem if it is stuck in kickdown. If that does not solve the problem, then try to manually shift through the gears. If it is still not shifting, it may be time for a rebuild.

Post this in the tech section and hopefully the auto tranny experts will see it and be able to help.

Ahh, is the vacuum line hooked up properly? If it's plugged or leaking, the transmission will sense that as wide open throttle, and shift the car as low as it can.
