It looks better in pics than it is, the quarters were bashed pretty bad before I cut them off, it moved the upper part that I welded to around. So its going to take a good bit of mud to make this thing straight. Im trying to keep it thin, but it is really annoying me with how its coming together. Looks like it might get painted yellow or white to hide the bad spots.

Spent today bumping the quarters around, grinding down the welds, and making the door gaps a little closer than half an inch. The drivers side quarter just didnt fit right, it was completely messed up, apparently it was stamped poorly and it required a ton of work to make it fit.
Well anyway it has some filler on it, should be cured enough to sand by tomorrow, didnt take any pics of that thought. It still needs a bit more to fill in some low spots I couldnt get to because of bracing behind the quarter. the pass side came out much better than I thought it would, I had a 3/8" channel where the quarter was bent and the replacement had a weird bend to it. Managed to get that moved back and stiffen the entire panel considerably. Not only did this thing have rust, it was also hit on every corner, some worse than others, so it makes things a challenge to fit.
This is the gap I needed to fill in, the front edge was off from the rest of the panel, its like the wheel lip was put in the wrong place, or the wheel house was stamped wrong moving the quarter back too far. Just a pain in the rear.
Here is the gap filled a bit prior to adding body filler. I didnt want to have half an inch of filler in the door jamb, so I used scrap metal to fill it in.
Looks good to me! how much more welding is needed before filler, primer, and blocking begins?
Oh just the entire front end, the trunk floor, and the rear tail light panel. I only mocked up the engine bay with tack welds to see if the fenders will bolt on in the right place. So I need to get to work on aligning the fenders and moving the radiator support and patches ahead of the shock towers around so the door gaps arent 3 inches and the hood fits.
Still have to do something about the cowl, might just weld in a nice flat piece so it drains outside the car, who needs ventilation right? This thing has windows. Then there are issues with the floor and toe boards, need patches for most of them. The doors need a bit of work, just a couple small rust spots to deal with in the bottom jamb.
Once the engine bay is final welded, then I am either building or buying a rotisserie so I can get to the bottom and make that nice under there. If I can scrape up the money I wont have to build it, right now it looks like I am building it.
I was going to ask how your cowls were, but that explains it. Mine are shot, the vent hat was so bad, I was able to just pull it out by hand. I am trying to figure out the best way to replace the hat, might make something out of plastic, that wont rust. The cowl cover looked like swiss cheese and there is no replacement for that either, which meant grinding, welding and filler.

If I could afford the parts I need to finish it, such as the entire front suspension and everything under the hood except the engine, then I figure it would take me roughly a month to complete it from where I am today. I just slathered some mud on the quarters today, probably headed back out to do some floor welding. Or I might stay in the house and play some Call of Duty 5 on the PC instead.. decisions decisions...
Got some mud on the quarters, its still relatively thin even though it takes up a big swath of metal. Its rough shaped so I can add some later if needed when the primer is on. I might get to primer this week, I sure hope so. It would be nice to have most the metal work done on this thing. Here it is with mud on it.
