Its over a wide area, but not terribly thick, max is 1/16". Its common to have a large swath covered so you dont have problems with it feathering, especially on a huge featureless quarter panel like 71-73s have. Its just too much area and even a factory quarter would need similar filler, but the door jamb on the drivers side is just pain crap. I am still irritated about the fit of that piece. I still need to finish the gap work on it and make sure it doesnt rust through the first time it rains or I wash the car.

Its 3Pm and I dont want to even touch the thing, but I know I have to.

I took some time off from the Mustang to paint my drag car and put the engine back in. Its been fun wrenching rather than sanding, bumping dents, and slinging filler. Here is a teaser pic of the 467 in it...

Been debating what to do with this thing, what direction to go. A resto is out because I would have a ton of money wrapped up in it, dont need a drag car and these are kinda heavy for that, cant afford high tech with an aftermarket suspension, airbags, and 18" wheels, so what to do? What to power it? No plan and no burning desire.

So I start looking through stuff for 460s and Clevelands, because I have them already. A 460 would be way cool but way nose heavy even with aluminum heads and real tight for swapping plugs. The cost of a 460 is up there even though I have a complete engine, its from a van and I would need everything to drop it in.

It came with a C so I started looking at stroker kits for one. I have a 4 bolt main block from a 71 Ranchero and a set of HO heads, its already .040 over and is relatively fresh because the guy I got it from didnt know how to assemble an engine. The cam going flat saved the bottom end that had the caps stuck on willy nilly. So really I could stick a stroker in it if I can get one with the right sized slugs. I have everything to put the 4V in it, so this seems to make sense.

So maybe just a healthy street machine, something to cruise that is well built but on a budget. Drop springs, Granada spindles, fat sway bars and stiff shocks so it will turn decent, a nice stereo and some sound deadening so you can actually hear the radio when its running, and maybe an AOD trans so the 3.50 gears are tamed a bit. Leave the heater off and go manual brakes and steering so it is more of a lean street brawler than luxo cruiser, a sleeper of sorts... and paint it an obnoxious metallic green with flat black hood, 17" wheels from a newer stang, and drive it until it falls apart again.

I think I have a plan for it after all this time.

A better pic than the one in my sig, shows how far I have gotten on it. After the shop heater is done, this thing is first priority again.

I took a look at your older pictures. That is some nice quarter work you did. Considering the photo of that car sitting in the grass compared to what it is now I don't think you can use the word "pit" in the name much longer.
Actually I think metallic green with a flat black hood would look downright cool. Go for it. You might get tired of the manual steering though.
