Transmission shop with no Cables or rods?!
#11
Can you post a pic of the shifter? A trans shop wont have all the cables, rods and other stuff for every car. Its way too much inventory to have on hand. If you have an aftermarket shifter then it gets even worse because some companies have a specific cable for certain shifters, and few cables will fit other shifters. If you have them order the part for an aftermarket shifter, you will pay list price plus a little bit.
If its the stock shifter in there, park is with the trans quadrant all the way back, provided it is mounted hanging down. It shouldnt be pointing up, if it is then it is mounted incorrectly, pull the nut and shift arm then turn it 180 degrees and it should work with a stock shifter.
The linkage is a simple rod, the stock ones have a "Z" bend in the middle, very easy to make one if you have the dimensions.

Well, the shifter lever on the trans does point down... I figured it was on upside down... and the shifter in the car, I'm guessing it's an aftermarket by the way its mounted. I'll get a picture tomorrow... But this is how it is. Take a ruler and put hold it straight up on the two inch mark about... now act like you're putting it in park. The bottom goes backwards, where as the shift lever goes forward for park, so a Rod wouldn't work unless I get a stock shifter I guess
Also... The Transmission is CAKED with grime, and is leaking somewhere as purple fluid is coming from it... I'm actually curious how much longer it has before it dies...

If you have a C4, FMX, or C6 trans then park is with the arm to the rear of the trans, lever forward. Some earlier transmissions had different patterns, but for the Mustang years they were all pretty much the same.
